چکیده

Ballistic thermal transport is a remarkable nanoscale phenomenon with possible applications in microelectronics. In the past decade, research on ballistic focused measurements of length-dependent conductivity semiconductor nanowires. this Perspective article, we review experimental demonstrations nanowires various materials and sizes at different temperatures. Our literature analysis reveals controversy between works reporting two distinct pictures conduction: perfectly conduction even room temperature weak quasi-ballistic mainly below temperature. Simulations seem to support weaker version effect. Thus, future experiments are expected resolve controversy.

Ballistic superconductivity in semiconductor nanowires

Semiconductor nanowires have opened new research avenues in quantum transport owing to their confined geometry and electrostatic tunability. They have offered an exceptional testbed for superconductivity, leading to the realization of hybrid systems combining the macroscopic quantum properties of superconductors with the possibility to control charges down to a single electron. These advances b...

Phonon heat conduction in a semiconductor nanowire

A model for phonon heat conduction in a semiconductor nanowire with dimensions comparable to the phonon mean free path is developed. It is based on the solution of Boltzmann’s equation, which takes into account i modification of the acoustic phonon dispersion due to spatial confinement, and ii change in the nonequilibrium phonon distribution due to partially diffuse boundary scattering. Numeric...

Ballistic heat conduction and mass disorder in one dimension.

It is well-known that in the disordered harmonic chain, heat conduction is subballistic and the thermal conductivity (κ) scales asymptotically as lim(L--> ∞) κ ∝ L(0.5) where L is the chain length. However, using the nonequilibrium Green's function (NEGF) method and analytical modelling, we show that there exists a critical crossover length scale (LC) below which ballistic heat conduction (κ ∝...

Diffusive-Ballistic Heat Conduction of Carbon Nanotubes and Nanographene Ribbons

Investigations of diffusive-ballistic heat conduction of finite-length single-walled carbon nanotubes and nanographene ribbons at room temperature have been carried out by using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. The length dependences of thermal conductivity reveal the variation of the balance between ballistic and diffusive heat conduction. For both systems, the profile indicates ...

Diffusive-Ballistic Heat Conduction along a Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube

The diffusive-ballistic heat conduction of finite-length single-walled carbon nanotubes has been studied by means of nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. The length dependence of thermal conductivity [1] is quantified for a range of nanotube lengths up to 1.6 μm at room temperature. A gradual transition from nearly pure ballistic to diffusive-ballistic heat conduction was identified f...
